Cookie Policy

This cookie policy explains which cookies and similar technologies CareTaskNest uses, what they do and how you can control them. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR, we may only use cookies that are not strictly necessary if you agree. We keep cookies to a minimum: strictly necessary cookies make the site work, and everything else is optional.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They let the site remember things between pages or visits, such as that you are signed in. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, work in a comparable way, and this policy covers them too.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are needed for the site to work, so they do not require consent under PECR and are always on. They are set by CareTaskNest (first-party) and are not used for advertising or tracking.

Cookie Purpose Duration
ctn_session Keeps you signed in to your account and protects your session. It is httpOnly (not readable by page scripts) and secure (sent only over HTTPS). Until you sign out or the session expires
ctn_consent Remembers your cookie choices so we do not ask on every page. Up to 12 months, or until you change your choices
ctn_locale Remembers your interface language. Up to 12 months

Optional cookies

Optional cookies are off by default. They are only used after you give consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.

Usage measurement

Provider Purpose Details
CareTaskNest (first-party) Counts anonymous events, such as "tool opened", so we can see which features are useful. Never includes notes, care space content or personal details. Not shared with advertisers.

Advertising

Provider Purpose Where
Google AdSense (Google) May show adverts and measure their performance. Google may use cookies to personalise or limit adverts, under its own policies. Public pages only
Adsterra May show adverts and measure their performance, under its own policies. Public pages only

Advertising may be enabled on public pages, such as guides, only if you have consented. Adverts are never shown inside the logged-in care space, and advertising partners never receive your account details, notes or care space content.

Advertising partners set and control their own cookies. To learn more, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's advertising policies, and Adsterra's privacy policy on its website.

Local storage used by the free tools

Our free tools (the home care cost calculator, caregiver daily log generator, weekly care schedule builder, senior emergency information sheet and home safety checklist) save what you type in your browser's local storage, so you do not lose your work. This information stays on your device and is not sent to our server. Because it is strictly necessary to provide the function you asked for, it does not require consent. You can remove it by clearing your browser's site data for CareTaskNest.

Changing your choices

You can change your choices at any time by selecting "Cookie settings" in the footer of any page. If you withdraw consent, we stop using optional cookies from that point. Cookies already set by advertising partners may remain in your browser until they expire or you delete them.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, you will not be able to sign in to the planner.

Your rights and complaints

See our privacy policy for your rights under UK GDPR. If you have concerns about our use of cookies, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we add or change cookies, we will update this page and its date. If a change needs your consent, we will ask again.
