Help Centre

This help centre answers the most common questions about using CareTaskNest. If you cannot find what you need, please use the contact form. In an emergency call 999 or 112. For urgent medical advice, contact NHS 111 or speak to a health professional.

Getting started

You can use CareTaskNest in two ways:

  • Without an account: use the free tools, printable templates and guides. Nothing you type in the tools is sent to our server.
  • With a free account: use the family care planner to share tasks, a calendar and visit reports with family members and caregivers.

To create an account, select Sign up, enter your name, email address and a password, then follow the steps on screen. You can change the interface language at any time from the language menu; it is available in 21 languages.

Using the free tools offline

The free tools (home care cost calculator, caregiver daily log generator, weekly care schedule builder, senior emergency information sheet and home safety checklist) run in your browser.

  • Your entries are saved automatically in your browser's local storage on that device.
  • Once a tool page has loaded, you can usually keep working if your internet connection drops.
  • Your entries do not sync between devices or browsers. To use them elsewhere, print or save a PDF.
  • Clearing your browser data, or using a private or incognito window, will remove your entries. Save a PDF of anything important.

Printing and saving PDFs

Tools and templates use your browser's print function.

  1. Select Print on the tool or template page, or press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac).
  2. Choose your printer, or choose Save as PDF (sometimes called "Microsoft Print to PDF") as the destination.
  3. Check the paper size. Templates come in A4 and US Letter; choose the one that matches your paper.
  4. If the layout looks wrong, try turning off headers and footers, or setting the scale to 100% or "Fit to page".

To print a blank template, open it and print without filling anything in. On phones, look for Print in the browser's Share or menu options.

Creating a care space

A care space holds everything for one household or one person you care for.

  1. Sign in and select New care space.
  2. Enter a name, such as "Mum's house".
  3. Choose the household time zone: the time zone where the person being cared for lives.

You become the Owner. You can belong to more than one care space, for example one for each parent.

Inviting people and roles

To invite someone, open the care space, go to Members, and create an invitation with the role you want them to have. Share the link with them directly.

  • Each invitation link can be used once and expires after 7 days. If it expires, create a new one.
  • Anyone with the link can use it, so send it only to the person you mean to invite.

Roles:

  • Owner – full control of the care space, including its settings and members.
  • Administrator – manages members, tasks and settings.
  • Family member – adds and completes tasks and writes visit reports.
  • Caregiver – works on tasks and writes visit reports.
  • Read-only viewer – can view the care space but cannot change anything.

Owners and administrators can change someone's role or remove them from Members. Give each person the lowest role that lets them help.

Tasks and repeating tasks

To add a task, select New task and enter a title. You can also:

  • assign it to one or more people;
  • set a due date and time;
  • make it repeat, for example every day, every week or every month;
  • add notes, such as where the spare key is kept.

When a task is done, mark it complete. For a repeating task, the next occurrence then appears. Each task keeps a history, so you can see who completed it and when.

Calendar and time zones

The calendar shows tasks and events in day, week or month view.

Times are shown in the care space's household time zone, so everyone sees the same schedule. For example, if your father lives in Manchester and you live in Toronto, a 10am appointment appears as 10am UK time. Owners and administrators can change the household time zone in the care space settings; check existing times after changing it.

Visit reports and who sees them

After a visit, open the care space and select New visit report. Write what happened, how the person seemed and anything that needs following up.

Before saving, choose who can see it:

  • Everyone – all members of the care space.
  • Owners and administrators only – for sensitive information.

Please do not use visit reports to ask for medical advice or to report an emergency. Contact the person's GP or other health professionals, or call 999 in an emergency.

Installing the app on your phone or computer

CareTaskNest can be installed as an app (a progressive web app) so it opens in its own window.

  • Android (Chrome): open the menu (three dots) and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

The installed app uses the same account and data as the website.
