We want CareTaskNest to be usable by as many people as possible, including older family members, people with disabilities and anyone using assistive technology. This statement explains the standard we aim for, what we do to meet it, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the website, free tools, templates and family care planner.
CareTaskNest is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. This means some parts may not yet fully meet the standard. We have not yet commissioned an independent audit, and we do not claim full conformance.
What we do
- Structure: pages use headings, landmarks and lists in a logical order, so screen reader users can navigate them.
- Keyboard access: we design interactive elements, including menus, forms, dialogs and calendar controls, to work with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
- Readable text: we aim for sufficient colour contrast, text that can be resized up to 200% without losing content, and layouts that reflow on small screens.
- Forms: form fields have visible labels, and error messages explain what went wrong and how to fix it.
- Not relying on colour alone: task status and visit report visibility are shown with text or icons as well as colour.
- Reduced motion: we keep animation to a minimum and aim to respect your device's "reduce motion" setting.
- Plain English: we write guides and interface text in short, clear sentences.
- Languages: the interface is available in 21 languages, and each page declares its language so assistive technology can pronounce it correctly.
- Testing: we aim to check new features with automated accessibility tools and by hand, including keyboard-only use, before release.
Known limitations
We know about the following issues and are working on them:
- Printable PDFs: when you print a tool result or template, or save it as a PDF, the file is produced by your browser's own print function. These PDFs are usually not tagged for accessibility, so screen readers may read them in the wrong order or miss structure. The same information is available as an accessible web page, which we recommend using with assistive technology.
- Blank printable templates are designed for handwriting and may be hard to use for people who cannot write on paper. You can fill them in on screen instead.
- Calendar month view contains a lot of information in a small space. The day and week views, or the task list, may be easier to use with a screen reader or at high zoom.
- Third-party content: adverts shown on some public pages (only if you have agreed to advertising cookies) are provided by third parties, and we cannot fully control their accessibility.
Compatibility
CareTaskNest is designed to work with recent versions of major browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and with common assistive technologies such as screen readers and screen magnifiers. Older browsers may not display everything correctly.
Feedback and help
If you find a barrier, or need information in a different format, please tell us using the contact form or by email at noreply@caretasknest.com. It helps if you tell us:
- the page or feature involved;
- what you were trying to do;
- the device, browser and any assistive technology you use.
We cannot promise a fixed response time, but we read all accessibility feedback and use it to decide what to fix first.
Enforcement
If you are not happy with how we respond to an accessibility concern, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com in England, Scotland and Wales, or the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland at equalityni.org.
