Editorial Policy

CareTaskNest publishes practical guides for families organizing the care of an aging relative. This policy explains who writes them, which sources we rely on, how we check and update them, and how to tell us when something is wrong. We want you to be able to judge for yourself how far to trust what you read here.

Who writes our guides

Our guides are written and reviewed by the CareTaskNest Editorial Team. Guides carry the team byline rather than individual names. Every published guide is approved by an editor before it goes live.

The team is not a medical practice. Our writers and editors are not acting as your doctor, nurse, lawyer or financial adviser. Our role is to explain how things generally work, point you to authoritative sources, and help you get organized.

What we cover

We write about the practical side of caring for an older relative, for example:

  • arranging help at home and comparing types of care;
  • planning respite and looking after yourself as a caregiver;
  • preparing for appointments and hospital discharges;
  • keeping records, contacts and schedules in order;
  • making a home safer.

We do not publish content on diagnosing conditions, choosing treatments or adjusting medication.

Sourcing standards

We prefer primary sources. In practice this means, in order of preference:

  1. Government agencies and official program websites (for example the CDC, the National Institute on Aging, Medicare.gov, Medicaid.gov and the Department of Veterans Affairs in the US; the NHS and GOV.UK in the UK).
  2. Regulators and public bodies, such as the Care Quality Commission in England.
  3. Established nonprofit organizations with recognized expertise, such as the ARCH National Respite Network, Age UK and Carers UK.
  4. Peer-reviewed research, where it helps explain a practical point.

We avoid relying on commercial sites, forums or other content aggregators for factual claims. When figures such as costs or eligibility thresholds change from year to year, we state the year and link to the source so you can check the current number.

Each guide lists the sources it relies on. A wider overview is on our sources page.

US and UK editions

Care systems, benefits and terminology differ between countries. We publish separate US and UK editions of our guides where the practical details differ, and each edition cites sources for its own country. If you are elsewhere, the general advice may still help, but local rules will differ.

Review and update cadence

Every guide shows the date it was published or last reviewed.

  • We aim to review each guide at least once every 12 months.
  • Guides that depend on figures that change yearly, such as program limits or costs, are reviewed when the source publishes new figures, where we become aware of the change.
  • When a source changes its guidance, or a reader reports a problem, we review the affected guide sooner.

A review may lead to no changes. When we make meaningful changes, we update the date shown on the guide.

Corrections

We try hard to be accurate, but mistakes can happen. If you think something is wrong or out of date, please tell us using the contact form, and include the page and the part you are concerned about.

When we confirm an error:

  • we correct it as soon as we reasonably can;
  • for a significant factual correction, we add a short note to the guide explaining what changed and when;
  • minor fixes such as typos or broken links are made without a note.

No medical advice

Our content is general information. It is not medical, legal or financial advice and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who knows the person's situation. Always talk to a doctor, pharmacist or nurse about health and medication questions. If someone needs urgent help, call 911 or your local emergency number. See our disclaimer.

Use of AI assistance

Some drafts may be prepared with the help of AI writing tools, for example to produce a first outline or to summarize a long official document. We do not publish AI output as it stands. Every published page is:

  • fact-checked against the sources it cites, with claims that cannot be supported removed or rewritten; and
  • reviewed and approved by an editor on the CareTaskNest Editorial Team, who is responsible for its accuracy and tone.

We do not use AI tools to invent quotes, case studies or personal stories.

Advertising and independence

CareTaskNest may show advertising on some public pages, such as through Google AdSense or Adsterra, only if you have agreed to advertising cookies. Ads never appear inside the logged-in care planner.

Advertising never influences our content. Advertisers do not choose, review or approve what we write, and we do not accept payment to include or rank products or services in our guides. If we ever publish sponsored or affiliate content, it will be clearly labeled.
