Terms of Use

These terms of use set out the rules for using CareTaskNest, including the website, free tools, printable templates, guides and the family care planner (together, the "service"). CareTaskNest is operated by the operator of CareTaskNest ("we", "us"). By using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. What CareTaskNest is

CareTaskNest helps families organize the everyday care of an aging parent or relative. It provides free browser-based tools, printable templates, general information guides and a family care planner that requires an account.

CareTaskNest is an organizing tool. It is not a medical service, a care provider or an emergency service.

2. No medical advice

Nothing on CareTaskNest is medical, legal or financial advice. We do not provide diagnosis, treatment or medication advice. Always seek advice from a qualified professional about health, medication, legal or financial decisions.

Do not rely on CareTaskNest for urgent or safety-critical matters. Reminders and tasks depend on people opening the app and on devices and connections working. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. See our disclaimer.

3. Who can use CareTaskNest

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you give us is accurate.

4. Your account

  • Keep your password private and do not share your account. Each person who needs access to a care space should have their own account and be invited.
  • You are responsible for activity under your account. If you think someone else has accessed it, change your password and contact us.
  • You can delete your account at any time in Account settings. You can also export your data as a JSON file before you do.

5. Free tools and templates

The free tools run in your browser and store your entries in your browser's local storage. We do not receive or back up that information, so it may be lost if you clear your browser data or change device. Printable templates are provided for your personal and household use. Please do not resell them or republish them as your own.

6. Care spaces, roles and sharing

Creating and managing care spaces

When you create a care space, you become its Owner. Owners and Administrators can invite people, assign roles and remove members. The roles are Owner, Administrator, Family member, Caregiver and Read-only viewer, and each gives different permissions.

Invitations

Invitations are sent as single-use links that expire after 7 days. Anyone who has a valid link can use it to join, so share it only with the person you intend to invite.

Your responsibility when sharing

You decide who joins a care space, which role they have, and who can see each visit report. Please:

  • invite only people who have a genuine role in the person's care;
  • give each person the lowest role they need;
  • review members regularly and remove people who no longer need access;
  • think carefully before adding sensitive information, and use the "owners and administrators only" visibility for sensitive visit reports.

We are not responsible for how members of a care space use information that has been shared with them in line with the settings you chose.

Information about other people

Care spaces often contain information about someone who is not a CareTaskNest user, such as the relative being cared for. Add only what is needed to coordinate their care, respect their privacy and wishes, and follow any laws that apply to you.

7. Your content

"Your content" means the information you add to the service, such as tasks, notes, calendar entries and visit reports.

  • You own your content. Content added to a care space belongs to the people who added it, and is shared within the care space according to its settings.
  • You give us permission to use it only to provide the service: to store it, display it to the members who are allowed to see it, back it up and keep the service secure. We do not use it for advertising or analytics, and we do not sell it.
  • You are responsible for making sure you have the right to add your content and that it is accurate and lawful.

Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the service for anything unlawful, harmful or fraudulent;
  • add content that is abusive, threatening, discriminatory or infringes someone else's rights;
  • access a care space, account or data you are not authorized to access;
  • try to probe, disrupt or overload the service, or bypass security or access controls;
  • use automated tools to scrape or copy the site at scale, except for normal search engine indexing;
  • copy, resell or republish our guides or templates as your own;
  • use the service to send spam or unsolicited messages.

We may remove content or restrict access if we reasonably believe these terms have been broken.

9. Our content

Our guides, templates, tools, design and software are protected by intellectual property laws. You may view, print and share them for personal, non-commercial use. Linking to our pages is welcome. Guides are general information, may not reflect the latest changes in every location, and should be checked against the sources they cite.

10. Plans and payments

The free plan is available now. Paid plans, Family and Family Plus, will be offered when available. Online payments are not live, and nothing can currently be purchased. Before any paid plan is offered, we will publish its price, features, billing terms and cancellation rights, and you will need to agree to them before you are charged.

11. Availability and changes

We work to keep CareTaskNest available and reliable, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may need to pause the service for maintenance, security or reasons outside our control. We may change, add or remove features. If we make a change that significantly reduces what you can do, we will try to give reasonable notice.

Please keep your own copies of anything important. You can export your data at any time.

12. Suspension and termination

You can stop using CareTaskNest and delete your account at any time.

We may suspend or close an account if we reasonably believe it has been used in serious or repeated breach of these terms, to protect other users or the service, or if required by law. Where appropriate, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your data first.

If we decide to stop providing the service altogether, we will give account holders reasonable notice so they can export their data.

13. Liability

We provide CareTaskNest with reasonable care and skill. However, it is a tool that supports, but does not replace, your own judgment and the advice of professionals.

To the extent permitted by law:

  • we are not responsible for decisions made or actions taken based on the service or our guides;
  • we are not responsible for missed tasks, reminders or appointments, or for content added by other users;
  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data stored only in your browser;
  • our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US $100 if you have paid nothing.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the operator's place of establishment, as stated on our contact page. This does not affect any consumer protection rights you have under the law of the country or state where you live, which continue to apply.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will change the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, tell account holders in advance by email or in the app. If you continue to use the service after the changes take effect, the new terms apply.

16. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent through our contact page or to the contact form on our Contact page.
